The use of disinfection units on railway rolling stock was first introduced in SP 2.5.1198-03 “Sanitary rules for the organization of passenger transportation on railway transport.”
- 5.1.23. In order to prevent possible secondary bacterial contamination of water, installation of drinking water disinfection devices shall be provided in the wagon water supply system.
- 5.1.39. When recirculation air is used not more than 70%, disinfection units shall be installed which shall provide a controlled inactivation efficiency of at least 95% for any biological agents. The total microbial count should be no more than 2000 CFU/m3.
The number of hemolytic cocci shall be no more than 60 CFU/m3 (3% of the OMF). Staphylococcus aureus (S.aureus), streptococci, Escherichia coli bacteria (E. coli) should not be detected in the air environment of the car.
